Tranexamic acid (TXA cream) is a water-soluble synthetic ingredient derived from the amino acid lysine. Its primary benefit for skin is improving surface discolourations that show up due to sun damage, but it can also help other types and causes of discolourations such as melasma.
You can use retinol and tranexamic acid together. Because topical products targeting discolouration tend to do better with supporting ingredients, You can couple your TXA cream with retinol, bakuchiol (Retinol Plus Cream), niacinamide (Niacinimide Plus Cream 15%), various forms of vitamin C (25% Vitamin C), or brightening plant extracts such as licorice root (Niaben RA Cream). Combining ingredients ensures better results because each has unique ways of targeting discolourations/pigmentation.
