Be a Sunscreen Queen
Finally! Summer is turning up the heat and while there might still be cloudy or rainy days, there’s no excuse to not put your sunscreen on! Damage to the skin from our youth shows itself in our more mature faces. The key is to apply sunscreen every single day – whatever the weather and even if you don’t go outside. The cumulative effect of popping to the letterbox or hanging out washing is what will cost your skin in the long run.
In Australia, sunscreens are classified as therapeutic goods (therapeutic sunscreens) and are regulated by the TGA. What does this mean? To comply with Australian Standards, all primary sunscreens must provide broad-spectrum protection. Broad spectrum means they must protect against UVA and UVB.
Personally, I prefer a separate sunscreen to one that is built into your foundation. Why? Because, for you to have enough protection, you would have to apply a large amount of foundation and risk your makeup looking cakey and unnatural. Sunscreen should be the last thing you apply before your make up. Or the only thing you apply if you are not into the whole ‘made up’ face thing.
I stock five different types of sunscreen that cater for all types of skin. While I know there is definitely one to suit everyone, by far the most popular is the ProPaira Tint 50+ with niacinamide. It’s super lightweight and non-greasy and everyone I know who uses it, loves it!
Any products I talk about here and in my socials are available in the clinic. I welcome you to come in, ask questions and try them out.
PLEASE ensure you’re wearing your sunscreen daily! While we all know it helps to protect your skin from cancers, it’s also the best defence weapon in your antiaging toolbox.
See you in clinic (with your sunscreen on!)
